American electric vehicles manufacturer Rivian is making several attempts for bringing in innovations in the field of EV’s. With its massive breakthrough technological solutions, it is consistently proving that there are several options with the adoption of which maximum efficiency can be obtained from those cars. The company has filed a patent in which it has made an attempt to install a huge battery over the rear bed of the truck which would push the range beyond 400 miles. The auxiliary battery installed over the bed would act as an additional source of power.
The company has revealed about the patent in its official forum. The drawings of the design reveal the possible arrangement of the installation of the battery over the rear bed. The arrangement would look like the traditional toolboxes which are usually installed in the same place over the bed. Those designs in the drawings reveal two alternative arrangements; a horizontal one in which the battery lies flat over the bed and a vertical in which it would be fitted as the traditional tool boxes are installed. Rivian however hasn’t revealed any detailed about which design would be used in final production.
The R1T model also comes with an enclosed compartment for storage which would be placed below the bed at the rear end of the truck. The overall arrangement will come with a connector which will connect the battery which will act as an auxiliary power source in order to push the drive range much beyond its calculated range of 400 miles. There is a separate liquid cooling system deployed for maintaining the temperature of the battery. On the other end, the company has already revealed that the model will come in two variants in terms of the battery ratings.
